Determining the price of football: an analysis of matchday ticket prices in the English Premier League

Research question Match day revenue is still an essential source of income for many professional sports clubs worldwide. This paper studies the determinants ticket pricing in English Premier League and examines whether to what extent stadium goers pay a premium sporting success spending by players’ labour market.Research methods We estimate regression models cheapest most expensive tickets playing five seasons between 2014/15 2018/19 inclusive.Results findings Our study shows that prices are driven several variables including opponent local derbies. The impact team performance asymmetric affecting only tickets. Capacity utilisation total cost both types tickets.Implications research provides insights leagues individual clubs.
